Jaiku Mobile should allow you to specify how frequently it checks for updates. More up-to-date and better battery life aren't enough.

The battery on my N75 isn't huge, and since AT&T bastardized
the firmware I can't tell my phone to stay in GSM mode, so UTMS is
eating up my battery like no tomorrow. Being able to only have
Jaiku check for updates every 30 minutes or hour would be nice.
