I don't know about the facebook plugin, but that doesn't have anything to do with the Jaiku IM bot, does it?

no, on further inspection it seems to be the case even when posting through the web interface. sorry, it's just that i always post using the im bot. i should have known better than to doubt xmpp on encoding issues. :)
