Seeming as Google own Jaiku it seems weird that there's none of the normal cross platform functionality eg google maps

Google may own Jaiku but there's been very little (if any at
all) development work done since the takeover. So, at some point in
the future it may happen, but it's not here yet.
there has to be a reason why G would buy J basic reason is the
amount of input it can give them to how users use new web apps like
these. Anyone heard of android? - Google project for improving web
usuability on mobiles - they're in a race with Nokia to see how can
do it best ala Blue Ray, maybe Jaiku is a facet of what they plan
to do with that.
also it would be easy to plug Google maps into Jaiku - I've seen
it done with a similar type of site though cant remember who? If
anyone has played with the Google Maps api then they'd know someone
most probably come up with the code to do this anyway and Google
have that.
that's exactly what i mean! Is it me or do Google just like
paying loads of money for things and let the rest of us explain to
them how they should best use their own applications.
I really appreciate the feedback. We're hard at work porting
Jaiku to app engine and on new stuff too that I think is pretty
exciting. Doing stuff 'google-scale' is a little different from
hacking something together that support x-hundred-K users, so like
you our little team has had to find out too that the lead time
getting stuff built here is longer. It may not sound like much but
we're doing what we can to deliver something for you guys to
enjoy.
Well Jyri Google have a reputation for paying their employee
well, I hope in your case they're richly rewarding you for all your
work - tell your boss from me you deserve a pay rise! What plans
are on the horizon (that you know about) then?

Not really surprising, just look at blogger. Google aquired projects never really get a whole lot of love.

I keep my eye on the Jaiku blog... but there's been nothing posted there in a month.

I thought it had been ported to App Engine for ages....

well it was listed to be the first during the App Engine's launch... but that doesn't mean that we have fully migrated to it.
