Instant Messaging Updates
Jaiku IM, our Instant Messaging bot, allows you to communicate with all your Jaiku contacts using your (XMPP based) instant messaging client. The supported services are: Google Talk, LiveJournal, and Jabber.
Note: If you're on AIM, Yahoo, or MSN, you can post to Jaiku using IMified.com
What you get
You get notified of Jaikus, comments and Web feed updates from your contacts, and you can post your own Jaikus and comments (even to channels!) right from your desktop.
Of course, sometimes you might want to not have all that going on in your Instant Messenger, so you can even stop the updates for a while (we don't mind, honestly - we know you actually need to work sometimes).
Activating
To get started, go to your IM client, and add jaiku@jaiku.com to your buddy list. Then, send us an IM message containing the text: "SIGN IN <your Jaiku screen name> <your Jaiku password>"
After your account has been verified, you'll start receiving notifications from your contacts. It's that easy!
Communicating with the bot
If you want to stop receiving notifications, you can simply send 'STOP' via IM, and we'll stop.
To post a Jaiku to your stream, you just type in your message and hit Send. You'll get a notification (kinda like an echo) of your post, just so you know it's gone through as it should.
To comment on a post (or a comment), use the @ symbol to direct your comment to a user (example: "@lordi Rock on!") Doing this will add your comment to the most recent thread that person participated in.
If you want to add a new contact, you can FOLLOW [contact] ( e.g. "FOLLOW jyri"). If you want to remove a contact, you can LEAVE [contact].
Similarly, you can join and leave our Jaiku channels - with JOIN or LEAVE (e.g. "JOIN #squid"). You can also post to channels by prefixing your message with #channelname ( e.g. "#squid Fresh squid fried with lime juice and garlic, served on a bed of crispy noodles = YUMMY!")
Support and feedback
So, that's the basics on how it all works - if you've got support questions, problems, or just want to hang around with a bunch of IMing Jaikuers you can join #imku. If you need to reach us directly, drop us an email at support -at- jaiku dot com.
